Technological Diffusion during the European Renaissance free essay sample
The advancements talked about here speak to transformations in fighting, society, and craftsmanship that saw a quick dispersion through the social orders of Europe during the renaissance for shifting reasons. Regardless of whether for endurance, financial addition, or stylish joy they were in the long run grasped all through Europe setting out a portion of the bedrock that advanced western culture would be based on. The spread of guns all through renaissance Europe profoundly affected fighting. The innovation of the print machine in Europe would make incalculable changes society boosting education rates and helping supporting the scholarly recharging of Europe. Oil painting procedures turned out to be generally embraced shaping the bases of Venetian style painting while likewise permitting works of art to make due to the current day due to expanded solidness. Our first case of mechanical dispersion is the gun whose fundamental part, black powder, advanced toward Europe at some point during the thirteenth century conceivably by means of Moorish Spain (LaRocca, Para 1). The Chinese likewise seem, by all accounts, to be the first to create black powder weapons with the soonest realized reference beginning in china during the twelfth century. The specific channels that brought this innovation from the Fareast are questioned yet what appears glaringly evident is that not at all like in China the entirety of the European rulers in the late fifteenth and mid sixteenth century understood the value of the new weapons (Sandberg, Para 4). Black powder weapons initially demonstrated their certain value to European rulers in the mid fourteenth century as the guns that helped the militaries of Mehmet II wreck the already secure dividers of Constantinople in 1453. In that equivalent year guns joined with earthen guards helped the French to pound an English endeavor to retake Gascony at the Battle of Castillon (Blair, Martell and Roumas, 47). The historical backdrop of the dispersion of gun innovation all through Europe during the renaissance gives us a case of innovation that was spread by need. Guns permitted the armed forces of Mehmet II to penetrate the dividers of Constantinople and stop the multi year old Roman Empire. While simultaneously the guarded capacities of firearm powdered weapons was demonstrated to the English at Castillon during an appalling misfortune to the French that finished the Hundreds Yearsââ¬â¢ War. The most emotional case of this procedure I have found was during the attack of Pavia in 1525 when the French-Swiss powers were vanquished so unequivocally by harquebusiers ensured by pike men that the French soldiers traded the crossbows for guns after the fight (Brooks 64). For European states it was a need to receive guns or face their own decay and decimation notwithstanding an innovatively predominant opponent. The renaissance likewise observed the creation and spread of the print machine which has been hailed as one of the most significant developments throughout the entire existence of humankind. Albeit prior printing forms have been known in Asia Schlager and Lauer come to the meaningful conclusion, ââ¬Å"[that] â⬠¦it was the mechanical device created by Johannes Gutenberg (1398? - 1468) that introduced another time of interchanges and understanding with sweeping ramifications that keep on forming our reality and perceptionâ⬠(Para 1). The dispersion of the print machine was incredibly quick with a print machine showing up in each significant European place inside fifty years of its creation in Germany at some point during the 1430ââ¬â¢s in any event, being brought to the New World by the Spanish in 1539 (Schlager Lauer Para 9). Be that as it may, not at all like the black powder weapons the spread of the print machine was not ordered for the prompt endurance of European forces. Rather the spread of Gutenbergââ¬â¢s print machine was fundamentally a lucrative endeavor that addressed the issue for another interest during the renaissance for works of writing. Actually the expanding reasonableness and availability of books made another market among individuals who generally didn't approach them. The renaissance time frame additionally observed the expansion of oil painting which was advocated in Flanders by Jan Van Eyck in the mid fifteenth century. The procedure that was created by Van Eyck which included overwhelming layering of paint for dim hues and a lighter layering of paint for lighter hues permitting the white ground to appear on the other side. Eyckââ¬â¢sââ¬â¢ Technique was then moved to Italy by Antonello da Messina who acquired it to Venice 1475 presumably in the wake of taking in it from an understudy of Van Eyck (Hall Para 8). There were additionally useful advantages of utilizing oil as a coupling operator since it offered more noteworthy adaptability, extravagance of shading, and adherence to help. Possibly for every one of these reasons oil painting was effectively moved all over Italy by painters vieing for the support of affluent Italian urbanites. By the 1490ââ¬â¢s it was the favored medium in Italy; the focal point of the European renaissance. The time of European history known as the renaissance saw the ascent of broad creation and development filled by political change, rediscovered information, and recently discovered riches among urban elites that supported such a large number of aesthetic endeavors. Gun innovation moved from China was quickly embraced by European forces and in the wake of being consummated demonstrated an important device of war that no European force could manage without. The Gutenberg print machine would immediately spread from Germany all over Europe to help the scholarly restoration while at the same time making a rising business sector for writing among the lower classes Europe. The oil painting procedure created by Flemish craftsman Van Eyck was conveyed to Italy where it before long turned into the favored medium and method. During a time, for example, the European renaissance that is characterized by advancement and development we can obviously observe the procedure of mechanical dispersion at work.

More Wins Than Losses
More Wins Than Losses Throughout my twenties, I was an on-again, off-again alcoholic. An on-again, off-again womanizer. An on-again, off-again drug addict. I was a lot of things Iâm not proud of, and I still battle with some of my demons. Iâm not perfect. I still lose sometimes. But thereâs a key difference between Ryan Past and Ryan Present: I win a lot more today. The person you are today is directly related to the five people you spend the most time with and your role models (TOP FIVE ASSOCIATES + ROLE MODELS = YOU). If someone spends the majority of their time with friends at the bar and aspires to live like Snooki from Jersey Shore, then theyâve made an obvious lifestyle choice. Sometimes itâs not this obvious. Examine your friends and role models. If theyâre not in line with who you want to be, then something needs to change. Then take massive action. Once you see what needs to change, change it. Donât sit around and should all over yourself. Canât take immediate action? Fineâ"pick a date when youâre able to implement change and stick to it no matter what. Make change a must. If you donât take action, your life wonât be any different. Change means avoiding negative relationships. Change means asking friends and family to embrace change with you. Change means breaking out of your comfort zone. Change means finding new, empowering relationships and role models. Itâs not easy, but it is rewarding. Whatâs the difference between action and massive action? My mentoring clients ask me this all the time. The difference is that massive action creates a physiological shift. Sitting down and writing out how you need to change is taking action; joining a new group of people to make new friends is taking massive action. If your actions donât move you (literally move you) in the direction you want to be, then itâs not massive action. Lastly, realize there is no endgame: once you reach greatness, keep being great. Often, when I would reach success (what I used to call success), I would use my bad habits as a way to reward myself. I did this with health and exercise. As soon as I saw good (not great) results, I would reward myself by slacking off and eating unhealthily. This attitude will destroy your momentum. You donât have to fall back to your old habits; you get to move forward toward better ones. Keep your head up. I have failed many times, and I still do. The key is to fail less as time goes on. Humans Learn Ethics From Their Environment - 1597 Words
Humans Learn Ethics from their Environment There has been a huge debate throughout the years as to whether human beings are ethical by nature or whether ethics is acquired in other ways. Christian Keyserââ¬â¢s research has evidence showing that humans are ethical by nature; conversely the Milgram experiment propagates that humans are not ethical by nature. Humans learn ethics as a result of their genetic predisposition, as well as, environmental factors such as: culture, socialization, and nurturing. In order to understand if we are ethical or not, we need to understand the difference between being moral or ethical. Many people believe that being moral and ethical are the same thing, but these two terms are a bit different. Moralityâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦One example of the cultural racism is the exercise from Jane Elliott. She is a former school teacher who created an exercise to show people that racism still exists in all different countries (Elliott, 2009). The exercise happened in the UK where people with brown eyes were superior and people with blue eyes were being discriminated against. During the exercise, the two out of thirty adults were against the situation and left. These two people were white. One of the men in the video stated that ââ¬Å"the majority of the group is committed to what she wants to do and notably is the white members of the group who are uncertain about itâ⬠(Elliott, 2009). This shows that these white members grew up with the belief that racism does not exist, but in reality it does. Another example is that if you grow up in a family with strong political ties, then you will likely adopt those same values. If you live in a household with republican beliefs, then you are more likely to have the same republican views as your parents. According to Christian Keyserââ¬â¢s research, humans learn behaviors from watching others. Although this shows that humans are empathetic by nature, we should not assume that this mean s that humans are ethical by nature. Humans learn by watching their parents or guardians and learn how to react to certain situations. For example, if a child seeââ¬â¢s that their parent is afraid of spiders, then they will pick up these

How to Create User Control Components in VB.NET
A user control is just like the Visual Basic supplied controls, such as TextBox or Button, but you can make your own control do whatever you like with your own code. Think of them like bundles of standard controls with custom methods and properties. Whenever you have a group of controls that youre likely to use in more than one place, consider a user control. Note that you can also create web user controls but theyre not the same as web custom controls; this article only covers the creation of user controls for Windows. In more detail, a user control is a VB.NET class. The class Inherits from the Framework UserControl class. The UserControl class gives your control the base functions it needs so it can be treated like the built-in controls. A user control also has a visual interface, much like a VB.NET form that you design in VB.NET. Four Function Calculator Control To demonstrate a user control, were going to create our own four function calculator control (this is what it looks like) that you can drag and drop right onto a form in your project. If you have a financial application where it would be handy to have a custom calculator available, you can add your own code to this one and use it just like a Toolbox control in your projects. With your own calculator control, you could add keys that automatically input a company standard such as a required rate of return, or add the corporate logo to the calculator. Creating a User Control The first step in creating a user control is to program a standard Windows application that does what you need. Although there are some extra steps, its still often easier to program your control first as a standard Windows application than as a user control, since its easier to debug. Once you have your application working, you can copy the code to a user control class and build the user control as a DLL file. These basic steps are the same in all versions since the underlying technology is the same, but the exact procedure is a little different between VB.NET versions. Using Different VB.NET Versions You will have a small problem if you have the VB.NET 1.X Standard Edition. User controls have to be created as DLLs to be used in other projects and this version wont create DLL libraries out of the box. Its a lot more trouble, but you can use the techniques described in this article to learn how to get around this problem. With the more advanced versions, create a new Windows Control Library. Follow this link to see the VB.NET 1.X dialog. From the VB main menu, click Project, then Add User Control. This gives you a form design environment almost identical to the one you use for building standard Windows applications. Add the components and code for your control and customize the properties you need. You can copy and paste from your debugged standard Windows app. In fact, the code for the CalcPad control (more on this below) was copied with no changes.Build your solution to get the DLL file for your control. Remember to change the Configuration to Release before the Build for production use.To move the control to the Toolbox, right-click the Toolbox and select Add/Remove Items...Using the .NET Framework Components tab, browse to the DLL for your component (probably in the bin folder of the Windows Control Library solution). Click Open when the DLL file is selected to move the control to the Toolbox, then choose OK. See this screenshot of CalcPad in the VB.NET 1.1 Toolbox. To check out your work, you can close the Windows Control Library solution and open a standard Windows Application solution. Drag and drop your new CalcPad control and run the project. This illustration shows that it behaves just like the Windows calculator, but its a control in your project. This isnt everything you need to do to move the control into production for other people, but thats another subject! The procedure for building a user control in VB.NET 2005 is almost identical to 1.X. The biggest difference is that instead of right-clicking on the Toolbox and selecting Add/Remove Items, the control is added by selecting Choose Toolbox Items from the Tools menu; the rest of the process is the same. Heres the same component (actually, converted directly from VB.NET 1.1 using the Visual Studio conversion wizard) running in a form in VB.NET 2005. Again, moving this control into production can be an involved process. Usually, that means installing it in the GAC, or Global Assembly Cache.

Much Ado About Nothing Research Paper free essay sample
1In one of his most famous plays, Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare conveys his idea that a person must be wary of others attempting to manipulate his life through the use of duplicity. Although this trickery is sometimes used to assist a person to realize something that he normally would not, it is also used to try to ruin a personââ¬â¢s life. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s clever development of his theme begins with the title. ââ¬Å"Much Ado About Nothingâ⬠seems to express the idea that the characters in the play exaggerated the seriousness of their situation. However, it must be remembered that this play was written in the late sixteenth century. The word ââ¬Å"nothingâ⬠was pronounced the same way as ââ¬Å"noting. â⬠ââ¬Å"Notingâ⬠meant to take notice of something; to hear, observe, eavesdropâ⬠(Squires). In the play, eavesdropping led to incorrect ideas and avoidable problems. Had people decided to confirm their hypotheses with evidence more valid than hearing a fragment of a conversation, they would have realized that they were truly creating avertable problems about nothing. Shakespeare used this cunning pun to establish that, by ensuring the legitimacy of something before believing it, a person can prevent much dilemma. The play explores the relationships of two pairs of lovers. The first, Benedick and Beatrice, begin the play in a sort of ââ¬Å"merry war. â⬠It becomes evident in Act I that they had known each other before he went away for battle. Beatrice flaunts her wittiness before Benedick enters the stage. She asks the messenger a peculiar question. ââ¬Å"How many hath he killed and eaten in these wars? But how many hath he killed? For indeed, I promised to eat all of his killingâ⬠(Shakespeare, I,i,10). Of course, Beatrice did not plan to engage in cannibalism. According to (Harlan), ââ¬Å"the suggestion here s that Beatrice is in no danger of having to commit cannibalism because she is sure Benedick is incapable of performing as a soldier, that he is a coward. â⬠She was merely implying that she knew that Benedick could not kill another soldier. When the messenger defended him, Beatrice continued to mock him, intentionally interpreting his responses incorrectly to insult hi m. Before Benedick enters the stage, she insults his courage, his integrity, his intelligence, and his gentlemanliness (Harlan). Beatriceââ¬â¢s witty retorts contribute to her bold and clever characterization. Benedick matches Beatriceââ¬â¢s wit when he enters the scene. Their exchanges at the beginning of the play add a playful atmosphere to the act. While they are both young and unattached to a romantic partner, it becomes clear that neither desires a marital bind. Benedick expresses that he loves women; he loves his mother for birthing him and for raising him. However, he will never marry, for he will never romantically love a woman. Similarly, Beatrice states that ââ¬Å"I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man swear he loves meâ⬠(Shakespeare I,i,125). Based on their incontestably similar characterizations and their lighthearted banter, the reader can predict that a relationship will bloom between the two throughout the play. Some scholars believe that Beatrice and Benedick inwardly loved each other at the beginning of the play (Cummings), while others feel that they did not realize their love for one another until they thought that the love was requited (Harlan). Hero and Claudio are a young couple. Shakespeare references Claudioââ¬â¢s age multiple times throughout. Upon their return from battle, the messenger praises him: ââ¬Å"He hath borne himself beyond the promise of his age, doing, in the figure of a lamb, the feats of a lionâ⬠(Shakespeare I,ii,13). Although Claudio is just a young man, his courage surpasses his age. However, being young and gullible, he allows his naivete to destroy his relationship later in the play. Hero, being a female in a time that women had few rights, was very compliant. She did not seem to carry the same bold atmosphere that her cousin, Beatrice, did. Instead, she mostly does what she is told to do and does not question anyoneââ¬â¢s motives. Even when she was accused of infidelity during her wedding, Hero did not defend herself enough to make the spectators question whether Claudio could be wrong in his accusations. She also did not question the friarââ¬â¢s plan to fake her own death. At the end of the play, Hero willingly accepts Claudioââ¬â¢s second marriage proposal without requesting a further apology. Her characterization reflects the expectation of women during the time period (Harlan). She is juxtaposed to Beatrice, who is bold and rather impudent. The men in the play are ostensibly quite concerned with infidelity. When Don Pedro asked if Hero was Leonatoââ¬â¢s daughter, he replied, ââ¬Å"Her mother hath many times told me so. â⬠Being the malapert character that he is, Benedick remarked, ââ¬Å"Were you in doubt, sir, that you asked her? â⬠Leonato quickly retorted, ââ¬Å"Signior Benedick, no, for then you were a child. â⬠(Shakespeare II,i,100-105). While this exchange was lighthearted in manner, it undoubtedly revealed their consciousness of unfaithfulness (Harlan). Although they might not have thought it of their own wives, they were certainly aware that women were capable of infidelity. In this play, Shakespeare often references folklore about cuckoldry, or a wifeââ¬â¢s unfaithfulness to her husband. According to this myth, when a wife practiced adultery against her husband, the man would grow a pair of horns that were visible to everyone except for himself. Therefore, the townspeople would laugh at him, but he would not be aware of his wifeââ¬â¢s sin (Harlan). Naturally, men were very afraid of being publicly humiliated in this way. This insecurity ultimately contributed to Claudioââ¬â¢s eruption at his wedding. Because the men were already wary of possible infidelity, it would not take much to convince them that their wives were unfaithful. Don John realized the opportunity to create trouble. He was characterized as a rather melancholic character, claiming that ââ¬Å"I cannot hide what I am. I must be sad when I have cause, and smile at no manââ¬â¢s jestsâ⬠(Shakespeare I,iii,13). The fact that Don John is the evil character in this play is not surprising, as the illegitimate son or daughter acting as the antagonist is banal in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays. He is known to be evil and is being watched to ensure hat he does not attempt to cause trouble in the kingdom. However, he manages to create a considerable mess. Don John has a talent of manipulating events in his favor. He ensured that Claudio would pass by Heroââ¬â¢s window when Borachio pretended to be having an affair with Hero. He knew that Claudioââ¬â¢s gullibility would cause him to accept that Hero was unfaithful wit hout considering any alternatives. The situation would have been avoided if Claudio had not been so rash in his accusations. After Claudioââ¬â¢s outburst at the wedding, the friar convinced Hero to fake her own death until she could prove herself innocent. This deception was followed by additional dishonesty after Don Johnââ¬â¢s plot was uncovered, when Leonato punished Claudio. Allowing him to continue to believe that Hero was dead, Leanato had Claudio write an epitaph to put on Heroââ¬â¢s gravesite. He was then to marry her cousin. It was not until the wedding ceremony that Claudio discovered that hero was still alive. Apparently unfazed by the fact that she had not died, he was overjoyed to marry her. During this rather serious occurrence, romantic feelings between Benedick and Beatrice begin to unfold. Because the characters cannot seem to avoid activity for the week before the wedding, they decide that they must help Benedick and Beatrice realize their affection for one another. The men, while they know Benedick is listening, fabricate a story about Beatriceââ¬â¢s concealed love for Benedick. The women do the same to Beatrice. Hearing this, they both decide that they can happily love the other. Both Beatrice and Benedick experience transformations: they seem to lose their wittiness. This symbolized their realizing their affection for each other (Harlan). It is noticeably replaced by confusion and affection. Both seem worried about their friends making quips about their marriage after they swore against it, but they still admit their love to one another. Beatrice decides that there is one way that Benedick can prove his love: by killing Claudio to honor her cousin. Benedick primarily refuses, but then agrees to challenge Claudio to a duel. This symbolizes his complete love for Beatrice (Harlan). By challenging Claudio to a duel, he is proving that he would kill his best friend for Beatriceââ¬â¢s hand in marriage. Benedick is established as a coward in Act I by Beatrice. Although this may have been part of her display against him, it is certainly true that he could not kill anyone in battle. However, Claudio showed the courage of a lion. Benedick knew that Claudio would be difficult to defeat, but he was willing to risk losing the battle for Beatrice. By the last act, it was unveiled that there was a scheme to have Benedick and Beatrice fall in love. Primarily, they pretended that they never actually loved each other. However, Claudio and Hero found notes that the two had written, confessing their affection. Therefore, the plan had worked and Benedick and Beatrice married. Throughout the play, the characters used deception to augment each otherââ¬â¢s lives. Benedick and Beatrice would not have realized their true feelings for one another had they not been tricked into thinking that the other had requited feelings. Claudio would not have felt as sorry for his accusations if he did not think that Hero died. However, trickery also almost ruined a relationship. Therefore, people should be conscious of deception and should refrain from assuming things until they have adequate proof. ?

Catch me if you can Essays Catch me if you can Paper Catch me if you can Paper Essay Topic: Everything I Never Told You Film Society is everything we see around us the atmosphere we live in and the place we call home, the average people and their beliefs and what is accepted and what isnt. It is in other terms, the world around us. In the film, society is represented as a gullible, and stereotypical place, as people tend to generally go with what they see, and believe everything they see. In some cases, the film is a true reflection of society in the 1960s. However there is a vast difference between its setting and society today, hence it is arguable that it is not true reflection of todays world and society At the beginning of the film the setting is quickly portrayed. It is set in a small America town during the Mid 1960s. At this time family was extremely important, especially communication and relationships within the family unit. The bond between Frank Jr and Mr and Mrs Abagnale appears to be very strong from the very first scene. Frank Abagnale Jrs eyes lighten up in awe as he watches his father receiving his award. His is the hardest to clap and the last to stop clapping as his mother beamed in delighted. However, not everything is always as it seems. The family seem to have a good relationship towards one another, especially the parents as they had been dancing. Frank portrays fondness and affection towards his parents watching in admiration whilst they are dancing. Franks mother spills her drink and thus creating a stain on the carpet. Although they were laughing and dancing over it, the stain may symbolise a patch or a bad sign on their marriage, which was there was as we see later on in the film. Furthermore, it was the mother who clumsily spilled the drink, and it was her who drove the family to break apart by having an affair behind her husbands and sons back. Frank views his family as the perfect, unbreakable family. He idolises his dad and is very optimistic towards the familys bond to one another. He believes that his familys love for one another can not be broken and is never-ending. He shows this through his willingness and determination to bring his mother and father back together again, as he views the divorce as a minor obstacle and believes that the bond of his family cannot be broken by this. He tries extremely hard to bring his family back together, as this was the reason which made him turn into a con artist, and forging cheques so he could regain the money lost in the family. He is desperate to have things back to normal, and even more to have his mum and dad back together again, as he was always offering his dad gifts to use to seduce and charm his mum just as he had done in France, I bought you a Cadillac dad, maybe you could take mum for a ride. Frank Abagnales mother is presented as an attractive middle aged housewife. She dresses in family orientated clothes, and appears to be the average housewife. However she is not what she appears to be at all as she is an extremely deceptive and dishonest character within the play. She shows this when she has an affair on her husband with a friend of his. She also shows nervousness in her character, when Frank Abagnale walks in on her. She quickly tries to get rid of him by bribing him do you want some money to buy anything? This also shows her deceitful manner and personality. Franks father, however, is presented as a more optimistic, diligent and charming father figure within the film, and he knows he is al of this. He is diligent and hard working, and it is seen through his mice speech Two mice fell in a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly drowned but the second mouse struggled and swam and finally turned that cream into butter and managed to walk out. I am that second mouse. He is also very optimistic, and this is shown in the whole matter of the divorce. He keeps reassuring his son that everything will be fine again, when it obviously will not be, thus showing his optimistic behaviour. He is also a very charming character, a characteristic which his son has obviously inherited. He uses his charms to his great advantage, and his main technique is achieved only when talking to a pretty, younger woman. He pulls out a necklace whilst the woman is telling him when the issue he is trying to deal with can not be completed, i. e. the suit incident, and asks her, did you drop this in the car park? It must have slipped right off your neck. The young woman is then flattered to be attracted to what appears to be a well supported handsome man and does not take great care into what she actually is doing, thus completing what he is trying to purchase or achieve. Frank is driven to run away simply because he can choose neither his mum nor dad. It is an impossible choice to make for any teenager, and this reflects that Frank is still only a kid as he runs away. He cant choose between his parents because he needs both of them, and we see this by his reaction when he was told of the divorce. In America during the 1960s, the type of clothing you wore portrayed your status, what type of job you had and even how much money you may have owned. For example, if you were seen in a suit, you would automatically be thought of as a richer, more upper class member of society. You would be looked up at, and would receive more public respect. This is portrayed in the film by Frank Abagnale Jr to a great extent. Knowing that clothing was a vital part in his scams, Frank Abagnale Jr used this to his advantage along with his wit and charm. He can be very deceiving simply by the type of clothes he is wearing. He uses them to disguise himself and take on different roles, especially when trying to deceive others. On his first day of public school, Frank is dressed as he would be expected to if he was going to a private school. As he is dressed in this upper class clothing in a middle class school, he is mistaken for a teacher, and automatically gains status over his fellow students just through his clothes. He gains confidence from this experience, thus creating the new deceptive and ambiguous character. People in society in the 60s were very credulous and had an inclination of judging people by what they wore. Since they were very gullible for this reason, they tended to believe Frank was an upstanding member of society and was of a very upper class status, and because of this type of prejudgement they were very likely and did believe him. Frank Jr sees this as an opportunity to make money and relishes it, especially when cashing cheques. When he is dressed in the pilots outfit, the public smile and greet him in the street as they see him to have a much respected job and position within society. A boy asks for Franks autograph when he is walking on the street, which shows he is idolised for wearing a pilots suit without having a proper qualification or job, and thus proving peoples gullibility. Furthermore, when he wants to cash in cheques, he goes to the younger and better looking women who are very easily impressed and also very susceptible like others in society at that time, they would be very amazed and pleased with themselves for being able to attract such a handsome, well mannered man, and one of a higher status. This makes them help him to do what he needs when he uses the necklace trick, hence why they are his main targets when looking to cash his cheques and use his charms and wit. Frank Jr expresses his need of a stable, strong-bonded family throughout the film. It is what he wishes to have more than anything else. But however, he is expected to choose one parent over another. This for him is an impossible task as at the end of the day he is still a teenager and he needs both parents to support him in what he does and through his teenage life. His love for his parents, which he portrays throughout the film, is immensely strong. Brendas family, or the strong family, have high expectations of Frank. They expect him to have a high and successful job so he supports Brenda. Furthermore, they expect him to be a Lutheran, and to follow their beliefs. Not only this, but they see him as a good candidate as he seemed to have a great background and an even better education. Hanratty is enormously determined to catch Frank Abagnale Jr for a single purpose- he left him looking like a fool. He has been repeatedly fooled by Frank, and the desire to catch him has gone from a simple challenge to a massive obsession. He craves to catch Frank to put him away for good at first, but however his opinion of Frank changes and he has the expectation that he will be sensible and law abiding when caught. Franks character is completely reflective of a teenager. His reaction when he finds out about his parents decision to split up is reflected by this completely. He decides automatically to run away and this shows that he is still young and cannot handle the responsibilities of being an adult and a man. He cannot live without both parents, and this shows his major dependability on both of his parents. The audience watching the film perceive him as a likable fun character within the play. They love seeing him get away with his scams, and believe that he is justified for his misdemeanours. His life changes drastically, when he is caught as he no longer has that sense of freedom, and he finally realises that there is more to life than just fun. He accepts to work for the FBI and this proves he has now developed some maturity and a sense of responsibility. Franks relationship with Hanratty changes drastically in the play. They go from being enemies to being friends and become closer. They develop a trust between them and so the relationship changes, because Hanratty believes Frank will change, and so gives him a job and a new life. The film is a representation of what society was like in the 1960s. I dont believe it reflects what it is like now, since it is based on a true story on something which DID happen in the 1960s, and people nowadays are not as gullible or as easily impressed.

ExxonMobil and Rosneft Arctic Collaboration Essay
ExxonMobil and Rosneft Arctic Collaboration - Essay Example The entire project is at risk from a large number of factors that span the financial, compliance, strategic and operational domains. The project is set to create an open framework that allows information and expertise sharing along with data availability and accessibility. Another aim is to augment oil reserves and to ensure oil supply as per global demand. Similarly the project looks to develop world class expertise and to come to an agreement that is beneficial and protective throughout the life of the project. Another underlying aim for Exxon is to become a leading oil giant. A large challenge is to achieve cooperation across the table and to deal with a state controlled country. This may give rise to legal issues and the US Congress may be reluctant to support such an initiative. Environmental groups would also oppose efforts for exploration and the icy environment would be a large challenge to work with as well as problems in oil spills, waste disposal and oil transportation. Th e project would proceed as semi-sub drilling with daily costs of $700,000 producing some 160,000 barrels per day. A joint venture framework would be used as the political and economic climate of the US Russia relationship is precarious over the longer run. The largest risk anticipated by the project is price volatility in the international market given that the project stretches some two decades. The collaboration between Exxon Mobil and Rosneft Arctic Corporation is a very positive step in order to promote collaboration between the US and Russia. Moreover such collaboration can provide much required relief to the international energy markets as more oil is discovered and exploited. The Russian side has the territorial space and the jurisdiction while the American side has the capability to provide the technical expertise that is much required to carry out this project. The largest technical challenge will stem from the function of the TLPââ¬â¢s tendons under the

Making Sense of DNA Backlogs. Evidence Backlog Epidemic Research Paper
Making Sense of DNA Backlogs. Evidence Backlog Epidemic - Research Paper Example Apart from the usual fingerprint analysis, the use of DNA evidence is employed in other relatable areas such as footwear evidence, accounting crimes, vein matching, glove-print analysis and body identification, among others. This means that the use of DNA evidence plays a pivotal role in crime scene investigations, analyzing trace evidence and skid marks. Nevertheless, despite the magnanimity that comes with the use of DNA evidence, the backlog epidemic that is constantly accosting it is undermining its usefulness. Several factors underpin the DNA evidence backlog, as shall be seen forthwith. The seriousness of the matter concerning DNA evidence backlog is compounded by the fact that cases are considered backlogged if 90 days elapse without the DNA evidence having been analyzed, or when the DNA evidence has not been subjected to analysis and the final report tabled before the agency that submitted the DNA evidence. Because of this, the DNA backlog can be split into: arrestee; casewor k; and convicted offender DNA backlog. The main cause of the buildup in coursework DNA backlog is the very nature of coursework DNA gathering exercise. Given that forensic evidence is herein gathered from crime scene, suspects and victims of crime before being taken to laboratory, processing this kind of evidence consumes time. This is because the evidence must be screened to establish the presence of biological materials. After the detecting the presence of biological material, the nature of the biological material must then be determined. Subsequently, the DNA testing begins. In the event that further complications are brought about by degrading and fragmenting of the DNA evidence from multiple victims or suspects, then more time will be required to solve the complication, and thereby making the process more protracted (Nelson, 2010). The foregoing is not the case with the arrestee and the convicted offender DNA which is less amenable to backlogs. This is because, in the arrestee and convicted offender DNA, there are identical media such as paper products which help in analyzing samples. At the same time, standardized collection methods are available to facilitate forensic laboratories to subject different samples to automated analysis at one go. Similarly, arrestee and convicted offender DNA evidence can be subjected to robotic platforms to process several score of samples in a 96-sample format. Additionally, unlike the case of casework DNA sample, the laboratory analyst needs not find the DNA sample amidst the evidence obtained. This means that the DNA evidence backlog

Critical Evaluation Of Contemporary Issues In Hospitality Management Tourism Essay
Critical Evaluation Of Contemporary Issues In Hospitality Management Tourism Essay Hospitality is a dynamic industry that is ever changing as a result of several external factors. The industry has become more competitive than ever before. Some companies often fail while others are very successful. Tanke (2001) argues that successful firms acquire, manage, and develop resources that provide competitive advantage. They also control and build up relationships with a large number of organizations, various stakeholders, and groups. Globalization has intensified the competitiveness and for firms to remain competitive they have to expand their relationship networks and collaborate with each other to remain competitive. Many firms are starting to monitor and manage key indicators to cut on cost and save money. According to Ottenbacher and Gnoth (2005) There are several contemporary issues in the hospitality industry which include, human resource management, strategic management, use of ICT and gastronomy and tourism. Much of changes in issues have been brought about by globalization. For example in the case of human resource, globalization has brought diversity in the human resources. Information communication technology has advanced much in development. The high number of people travelling to foreign lands has brought changes in the gastronomy and tourism. Hospitality businesses must therefore manage all these issues to succeed in their operations. Tanke, (2001) argues that hospitality businesses will need to focus more on brand, human resource, emerging markets and information communication technology. These are the primary determinants of the winners and losers in years to come. Strategic management is thus important in determining the success of these firms. Strategic management has been hailed to provide higher levels of satisfaction than other management tools. Literature Review HRM Issues In the Hotel Industry Globally The importance of valuable human resource management to business success in any use of human resources can give an organization a competitive advantage. The importance of human resources is particularly significant in hospitality industry. Duncan (2005) suggested that there are several main areas of challenge and worry in the global hospitality industry, relating to employment issues, taxation levels and environmental issues. Employee turnover According to Hinkin and Tracey (2000) employee turnover has become one of the challenges in the hospitality industry. The industry globally suffers from high level of staff turnover, which result to intangible costs and high direct expenditure. Riegel (2002) argues that turnover is a result of several factors such as job dissatisfaction, poor working environment, poor supervision and lack of commitment that influence employee attitude and behavior. Iverson and Deery (1997) carried out a research on the labor requirements of the hospitality industry and established that the high turnover rate is one the most difficult issues in human resource management in that context. They reported that the turnover problem in large hotels was much worse than in small hotels. Many hotels are planning to increase the number of people employed simply to cover the turnover situation. Hoque (1999) contends that service quality focuses on the nature of the interaction between the individual employee and the customer at the point of service, in terms of politeness and overall professionalism. Hoque also argues that service quality is the main factor in creating competitive advantage in the hotel industry, and that any hotel that does not make an effort to improve continually its service quality will lose ground. Competitive advantage generated from internal sources includes such characteristics as value rareness, exceptionality, and non-substitutability (Iverson, Deery 1997), and the employee at the end of the service delivery system may well be the only differentiated and unique asset of a hotel organization that cannot be easily copied. Hinkin and Tracey (2000) have also recommended that there are in fact only two ways to compete in and differentiate between hospitality services. One is by competing on price and minimizing costs, which locks a hotel into a particular market segment. The other is to compete by providing exceptional service. They note that customer care is not a new concept in the service industry, but it is still a complex thing to control and sustain. In the face of the high level of turnover in the hotel industry, it is possible that some customers are served by employees who are fairly untrained, less committed, and less capable in their social skills. But dealing with this requires the use of quite organized approaches to service quality management. Huang (2001) suggested that if an organizations first and foremost objective is to provide a service, a holistic approach to service quality management must be developed and employed, insightful at all levels of the organization from the chief executive to the entry level employees. Training and development Garavan (1997) argues that training and development of employees is linked to service quality because its activities can be used to strengthen attitudes and behaviors that lead to effective service. Several researchers have suggested that developing a service culture during training and development and knowledge building are good practices. Employees training and development of skills help firms to enhance quality of service, increase productivity, and reduce costs. Elsewhere, Davies, Taylor and Savery (2001) investigated certain human resource management functions in improving employees relations in western Australian accommodation industry and found out that sustained training and development led to an important improvement in productivity, with a reduced turnover of employees. Huang (2001) argued that in Taiwan training and development was the main significant driver for economic development. Staff recruitment and selection Alleyne, Doherty and Greenidge (2006) contend the due to the nature of the hospitality industry; labor demand is much unpredictable and subject to seasonal variation. As a result the hospitality industry has had negative image among prospective employees. Elsewhere Debrah and Budhwar (2004) argue that changes in the macro environment for example ageing workforce, lower birth rates have also contributed to employees shortage heightening the imbalance between the employee demand and supply. This has made employee resourcing a great problem and highlights that effective management of demand and supply of best employee is a great problem in the hospitality industry (Tanke, 2001). Global competitiveness in the hospitality industry Successful hospitality firms eventually find that their domestic markets are either saturated or that foreign markets offer opportunities for growth and profits which are not available domestically. Several forces are leading businesses into the global arena. These include trade barriers falling especially in Europe and North America, newly industrialized countries, shift towards market economies, availability of financial capital; standards are becoming uniform globally and advancement in information technology (Tanke, 2001). Organizations that want to remain competitive must therefore acquire state of the art resources at a lower price, for example they may consider expanding to emerging nations where labor is cheap. The strategic management repercussions of increasing globalization are extreme. Managers cannot afford to overlook opportunities in foreign markets. Nonetheless, business methods and customs vary from country to country. These disparities make stakeholder analysis and management even more important. Analysis of wide environmental forces such as society, technology, and political influences ought to also be extended to the different regions in which an organization carries out business. People also vary greatly from region to region. The challenge of an ever increasing competitive global marketplace can be tackled through a well-devised strategic management process. Nevertheless, tactical planning must not always lead to the kinds of changes that are essential to stay aggressive over the long term. Technology Although there has been an increasing awareness of the value of state of the art integrated systems many hospitality firms still do not take advantage of them. There inadequate understanding of how much competence could be improved via use of these systems. Tanke, (2001) argues that hospitality administration systems have over the years developed into complex, well incorporated tools which help firms to make more revenue, attract more guests, and improve effectiveness. Nevertheless, some business still hang on systems that have are much ahead of their competitive useful life. This limits them from having the benefits that are brought about by these systems. Though several firms are scared of upgrading their systems because they fear that their employees will not be in a position to handle these systems, there is need for training the employees how to use these systems (Tanke, 2001). Alleyne, Doherty and Greenidge (2006) contend that as systems become more inclusive their support and security management become necessary and complex. However it must be noted that it is almost impossible for organizations to have their own technical support staff skilled in all the system they use. Guest report has become an aim for thieves and attacks on computers are becoming more complex. These trends call for a shift towards more professional system management; this may be a corporate team or an agreement party. Elsewhere Debrah and Budhwar (2004) argue that innermost revenue management teams, for example, can provide specialist help to numerous properties in a regionally unified way. Centrally-hosted systems permit highly-skilled technicians to offer a far more protected and managed systems environment than would be accessible to an individual firm. This trend is expected to prolong as understanding grows of the value of maintaining systems operating at peak proficiency, and o f the possible harm from security violations. Methodology According to Hoque, (1999) two essential questions were put to a sample of hotels: What are the key human resource management issues and concerns in the hospitality industry of Taiwan? And what are the main human resource management roles and practices used to engage with them? Rather than default to a single issue approach to the interviewees, the interviewer tried to examine human resource management in the hospitality industry in an entirely open-ended way. The respondents were free to raise any human resource management issues, concerns, functions and practices that they thought to be significant. This method allowed the researcher to notice what came up in order of priority for the respondents, or what failed to come up at all (Hoque, 1999) The method used was qualitative and the main technique was in-depth interviews. Leading questions were avoided by the researcher on order to gain a deeper understanding of some phenomena as experienced by a group of people (Creswell, 2003). It was not possible to examine all the hotels in Taiwan because of financial and time constraints. The researcher selected the chain hotels which he expected to have formalized human resource management practices than smaller hotels. The researcher further segmented the hotels according to number of rooms, geographic location, and brand. The researcher interviewed senior managers but in some cases some hotels that were approached refused to be interviewed arguing that they would consider questionnaires because of their tight schedules. Although there are few definitive rules for sample size in qualitative enquiry (Patton, 2002), it has been suggested that 12-20 examples are needed when trying to obtain the broadest range of information and perspectives on the subject of study (Kuzel, 1992). At the time this research was conducted, there were 46 chain hotel properties in Taiwan and the sample selected totaled 14 hotels, which represents 30.43%of the total population of such hotels. Analysis The findings were presented together because some issues were common to all the respondents and had cause and effect relationship. Fourteen participating hotels identified several main issues namely shortage of employees 100% of the respondents, 64% of the respondents talked of challenges in approach to training and development. While 50% of the respondents emphasized on the high level of employee turnover. Shortage of employees Participants pointed out that the overall education level in Taiwan has risen in the last decade. This has caused a problem to the hospitality firms in recruiting entry level employees. The increased growth of the hospitality industry has made the shortage even worse. Respondents however, believe that at middle level the case is different there is o shortage at this level. However those who hold these positions are not qualified but only fill these positions because a vacancy has to be filled. Shortcoming in Approaches to training and development Most of the employees have no hospitality background this calls for a sophisticated training and development approaches. Nevertheless, some hoteliers believe that that is not a major problem because they believe that skills can be gained on job training. High level of employee turnover Participants pointed out that this was unavoidable because of the nature of the hospitality industry. In certain cases the turnover might be positive to the industry as it may remove de-motivated staff. Respondents also pointed out that older employees led to lack of innovation, infusion of fresh ideas and creation in the firm. Discussion From the in depth interviews it can be argued that challenges in training and development, inadequate employees and problems in internship employment can be attributed to customer service quality discussed in the literature. Kuzel, (1992) argues that employing interns is a solution to the shortages in the hospitality sector. Interns provide stable employment especially at the entry level. Some hotels just view interns as supportive force as opposed to long term investments. It is recommended that hospitality managers should create a sense of belonging to the interns so that they could come back and work in these establishments. Most participants in this study appeared to accept Hoques (1999) view that the high level of turnover is a fact of life and a regular and acceptable phenomenon in the hospitality industry (Iverson Deery, 1997). In the fact, turnover still can be improved by better management, as long as human resource managers can see it as an opportunity, not just an unavoidable problem. Some researchers have recommended that specific human resource management practices can improve employee satisfaction which in turns minimizes the turnover rate. Empowerment is one of the efficient approaches suggested by many researchers (Enz Siguaw, 2000a, 2000b; Lashley, 1999). They recommended that it is significant to give power to the employees who provide services by focusing on customers needs. Service encounters are the key activity in a customer service business and employees may encounter a lot of diverse unique situations which cannot be covered by the organizational policies and actions (Iverson Deery 1997). If organizations are able to give power to their employees, then they are able to exercise prudence in delivering customer service and do whatever is required to satisfy customers needs (Enz Siguaw, 2000a; Lashley, 1999). It has been disputed that empowered employees also have a propensity to have a strong sense of control and personal worth because they can take liability for the service encounter and have the power to effect customer satisfaction (Lashley, 1999). At another level, it has been recommended that empowered employees are motivated by doing meaningful work that eventually enhances their job satisfaction and reduces the turnover rate s According to Lashley, (1999) as a result of global economic changes there has been increased competition and uncertainty, the firms have to be flexible in employee resourcing and responding to customers. The human resource managers must use methods that give them flexibility to employ employees to respond to variations. This type of employment helps the organization to cut on direct labor cost and also provide flexibility for employees and employers. One of the possible negative characteristic is that dispatching workers have a limited relationship with hotels in which they will work ensuing in low trust and low commitment. These might, in turn, lead to disagreement between direct-hire and dispatching workers, and between management and employees (Kalleberg, 2000). Another likelihood is that it is more expensive to manage the outsourcing activity than initially expected, so that the goal of cost saving is not achieved (Albertson, 2000). The tendency towards flexible working has become inevitable in such a fluctuating environment (Purcell Purcell, 1998), and dispatching is one of the arrangements which are prone to be a permanent dynamic of the hotel industry in the future. While becoming more popular in Taiwan, but there is no rule of the process at the time of writing. It has been argued that it is essential to regulate dispatching employment, because of the complex triangular employment relationship between dispatching company, dispatched worker, and the firm to which they have been dispatched (Kalleberg, 2000; Purcell Purcell, 1998). Conclusion This study set out to find out the contemporary issues in the hospitality industry. Due to its nature the hospitality industry and globalization effect the industry has several contemporary issues. These contemporary issues have a direct impact on the hospitality industry and for that reason they must be strategically managed for these businesses to succeed. This study however lays emphasis on the contemporary issues in human resource management. The findings of this study suggest that many of the participating hotels thinking and mindset are at the operational level, rather than the strategic level. Even though a good number were able to identify particular human resource management issues as vital, it seems that many do not have strategic approaches to deal with these challenges. Equally, although most perceived specific human resource management functions and practices as being very important, some of these are not utilized in a complicated way. Some of those interviewed had novel thoughts and creative ideas but had a limited voice or participation in decision-making. It seems that their role is seen as being to go behind the policy that has been already set by top management, rather than being an active voice or head in the organizations thinking. It was very strange for respondents in this study to have a seat at board level or to play a key role in creating and supporting competitive advantages for the business. The interviewer concluded that human resource management is not usually seen as a source of competitive advantage, and many look forward to maintain competitiveness mainly through new facilities and amenities. Nonetheless, Ottenbacher and Gnoth (2005) have argued that the efficiency of a hotels approach to human resource management is just as significant as a source of sustainable advantage. This study has stressed that the highly competitive nature of the industry affects both customers and staff. In particular, talented people are much preferred in a labor-intensive customer service industry. This research has expectantly provided some practical and strategic suggestions for hoteliers to cross the gap between the operational level and the strategic level of thinking and practice. Nevertheless, it is concluded that hotel owners need to be aware that human resource management must be managed well in order to keep up with changes in the global environment. The human resource management function is no longer one of traditional personnel administration; instead, it must be strategic and proactive in dealing with complicated human resource management issues.

Economies of Scale
Detroit and some of its surrounding areas as Windsor and Ontario, represent a huge factor in the economy of the United States by being one of the major cities where trade takes place. General Motors, Ford and Chrysler also known as Americas ââ¬ËBig Threeââ¬â¢ automobile companies are located in this city. The concept of External Scale Economies can help us explain why these three major companies are located in this area. Scales economies are important for a country because they represent a growth in its economy. Companies are able to produce more products or services at a lower cost of input. External scale economies are based on the size of an entire industry within a specific geographic area. â⬠1 These companies bulk in one specific area in this case Detroit, causing a decrease in the cost of the inputs by sharing some of these with the other surrounding companies, ââ¬Å"this way the output of the industry within the area is largerâ⬠2 But how did Detroit turned out to be the spot for these major companies? Detroitââ¬â¢s location gave it the advantage to start growing as a transportation hub in the very beginning. At the end of 19th century Detroit had shipping, shipbuilding and manufacturing industries, but what gave Detroit the main advantage for the businesses to settle there were the natural resources that it owned which eventually led automobile industries to be interested in this place for what meant for them: the external factors which provided a reduction in the firmââ¬â¢s cost. Some of these factors were coal, iron, and copper mining, Detroit was also easily accessible by water and by land; and it was near the nationââ¬â¢s leading, well-established production centers. One of Detroitââ¬â¢s strength was certainly the external factors mentioned above; it guided important industries towards its direction becoming what is now known as a global symbol. The agglomeration of these three big automobile companies has allowed the achi evement of an external scale economy therefore a benefit for the United Statesââ¬â¢ economy. Notes 1. Thomas A. The Story of Buddhism Essay - 2163 Words
The Story of Buddhism The story of Buddhism might be said to have begun with a loss of innocence. Siddhartha Gautama, a young prince of the Shakhya clan in India, had been raised in a life of royal ease, shielded from the misery and cruelties of the world outside the palace gates, distracted by sensual pleasures and luxurious living. But one day the fateful encounter with the real world occurred, and Siddhartha was shaken to the core. There in his own kingdom, not far from his gardens and delights, he encountered people suffering from sickness, old age and death; he brooded over these things, deeply disturbed that such was the fate of all beings. Then he encountered an ascetic holy man, a renunciate dedicated to liberation. He was born in the 6th century BCE, a time of great turmoil and political change in India; many were unsatisfied with the Vedic religion, and new teachings had emerged, among them the Upanishads. The Buddha stood largely outside the Vedic tradition, criticizing many of its central teachings. Nevertheless, he had been influenced by that tradition and his teachings in turn would have a profound effect on later teachers in the Hindu tradition, such as Shankara; even in such Hindu classics as the Bhagavad Gita, some reaction can be seen to Buddhist teachings. But later centuries would see the Buddhas influence wane in India and instead spread to other Asian countries. Today Buddhism has spread throughout the world. Various sects have arisen as later teachers have reinterpreted and expounded upon the Buddhas basic teachings. Buddhism may be considered a religion, a philosophy, a way of life, or all three; here we will deal mainly with Buddhism as a philosophical system. II. School Uniform Debate Should They Be Allowed Essay Example
School Uniform Debate: Should They Be Allowed Essay The debate over the compulsory use of school uniform is not a new issue. This debate is taking place since years and parents and administrators of schools provide arguments for or against the compulsory use of school uniform. A large number of parents and administrators consider the use of school uniform something forcibly imposed as a mandatory rule. Where as, other parents and administrators consider that the mandatory rule to wear school uniform will result in broad spectrum benefits (Veigle, p. 3). This issue remains still unresolved. The present essay provides the arguments in support of school uniform as well as arguments against the mandatory wearing of school uniforms. The paper ends with the concluding remarks of the author in which the author presents his voice on the mandatory wearing of school uniform.School Uniforms Should Be AllowedThis section of the essay provides arguments that strongly support the mandatory use of school uniform.School Uniforms Improve Academic Perf ormance: It is widely accepted among a large number of educators and parents that academic performance is enhanced when students wear uniform. They justify their statements by saying that if the students are allowed to come in dresses of their choices then their concentration is diverted from their academics to their wardrobes. So it is widely approved by several sociology experts that students will be able to concentrate more towards their academics when they will be wearing school uniforms as they would not have to pay attention towards the selection of a dress daily to wear in the school. Experts also insist that school attendance is increased when students wear uniforms (Sher, p.21).School Uniforms Improve Behavior: It is widely believed by experts and educators that the behavior of students wearing school uniform improves. A firm environment is dictated when students wear school uniforms. Students seem inclined more towards the school discipline and thus a reduction in the viol ent behavior occur (Holloman, p. 33-38).School Uniforms Improve Social Outcomes: It is believed that social outcomes of students wearing school uniforms improve a lot. This is because most of the time, conflicts among students arise due to the standard of the dress selection. Some students feel proud due to their clothing and thus they make fun of other students wearing less expensive clothes. School uniforms improve the social environment (Holloman, p. 33-38).School Uniforms Are Less Expensive: School uniforms reduce the cost of buying expensive clothes and thus become more economical for parents. School uniforms are far less expensive than trendy dresses (DeMitchell et al. p. 31-49).School Uniforms Should Not Be AllowedSchool Uniforms Inhibit Self-Expression: The self-expression of students is badly affected by the mandatory use of school uniforms. Developmental stages of a child are highly influenced by the self-expressive power of a child and when a child is not allowed to wear clothes of his/her choice, its development is affected as they do not find any way to express them (Hethorn, p. 44-48).School Uniforms Strip Individuality: When students are forced to wear school uniforms, they lose their individuality. Thus, it can be said that the school uniforms do not promote cultural diversity. Human nature requires socialization that is tried to be controlled by imposing the mandatory use of school uniforms (Gilbert, p. 3-18).School Uniforms Are Not Comfortable For All: It is argued that school uniforms do not make all the students feel comfortable in the texture and style of the uniforms. Different people prefer to wear different types of textures and styles of clothes. Students become limited to wear according to their comfort due to the mandatory wearing of school uniforms. If students would not feel comfortable in their school uniforms then they would not be able to concentrate on their academics and thus their learning abilities will be reduced (Essex, p. 38).School Uniforms Aggravate Violent Behaviors: Some students possess rebellion nature by birth. They simply cannot obey rules. When they are forced to wear school uniforms their behavior become more violent. They find out ways to show their opposition to the mandatory wearing of school uniforms such as they alter the uniforms in a way that is totally different from the standardized style of the school uniform (Joanne, p. 1).ConclusionIt can be concluded after viewing arguments both favoring and against the mandatory wearing of school uniform that school administrators should not mandate the wearing of school uniform. Though arguments in favor of mandatory wearing of school uniform apparently seem very convincing but in practice, these arguments can not be applied. Though theory can provide strength to the arguments that wearing school uniform makes improvement in the behavior and academic performance of students but in real life these supporting arguments do not provide any help. And, if mandatory wearing of school uniform does not do anything good to students then its use should be avoided. Students should be given full freedom to wear what they want to wear. By wearing dresses of their choice, they will be able to express themselves as well as their individuality would not be affected. They will be able to wear dresses in which they feel more comfortable and thus they would be able to concentrate more towards learning.
